Rikku is the daughter of the Al Bhed leader, named Cid. Her mother passed on at a very young age, due to a rampaging experimental Machina. She has one sibling, appropirately named Brother. She grew up in the Al Bhed center named Home. She was always resistant of her father's parenting and often did what she wished. She had one wish as a child, and that was to have more siblings, so that she'd never have to be alone. She continues that desire, and plans to have a number of kids.... when she's done having fun.
The Al Bhed, and ultimately Rikku are a race of humans that value the potential of Machina. In Spira, the machina were feared because they were blamed for the coming of Sin, as taught by the followers of Yven. Cid, and his family, did not believe in blindly following the traditons of appeasing the great beast with the life of a Summoner for a 10 year peace. This became increasingly important to Rikku specifically when her cousin, Yuna, became a Summoner after her father perished in his ultimate gift of the Calm as a summoner himself.
Rikku found Tidus as she was helping her family find long ago lost machina to help fight against Sin. She rescued him from the waters, and taught him about the new world he found himself a part of, and warned him against saying he was from Zanarkand. The Zanarkand of this time was nothing but an ancient city of ruin, and no one lived there... let alone played Blitzball. She offered to help him try to sort out his confused thoughts until they were seperated some time later.
Rikku runs into Tidus once again, though this time in her search for Yuna. She does not take no for an answer on becoming a guardian for Yuna to at least protect her on a journey that Rikku found so wrong. Rikku keeps her heritage silent due to Wakka's very strong religious belief in Yveon's teachings. Rikku supported her cousin every step of the way, though the entire time she listened closely for any way to get her out of sacrificing herself for this mission.
When Tidus learned of the true purpose of Yuna's travels, he became very angry and frustrated, knowing that Yuna, who was slowly becoming very important to him, was to die at the end of it. He began to fight drastically with Wakka, which made Rikku finally blow her cover. Rikku pointed out the terrible flaws in asking so much of Yuna, and demanded they find a different way. Tidus, obviously agreed with her. The debate against the Al Bhed eventually resulted in the destruction of Home, though Rikku's father survived.
They decided to keep the journey going, but the tension of Yuna's probable death was taking it's toll. When they finally reached the true Zanarkand, and met with Yunalesca, it was then that Tidus decided against the Calm. They were to fight Sin themselves, and destory him once and for all, for all of Spira, and for Yuna's life. It was a grand battle, but in doing so, Tidus's identity as a memory, a mere dream of those sleeping in Zanarkand was revealed and he was lost, though Yuna remained.
Rikku and Yuna, together with a new friend, Paine, decide to relocate Tidus after finding a sphere with what looked like Tidus within. They began a long journey of chasing down spheres in hope of finding a new clue as to where he was. In the journey, they learn of what was hidden within about a woman named Lenne, who looked remarkably like Yuna.
As the journey came to a close, and many spheres were located, they were able to free Tidus and return him to Yuna's side. Rikku was excited for her cousin, and secretly hoped that maybe one day, she'd be that lucky to go on an epic adventure for love's sake. They returned home, and Rikku went back to rebuilding Home.
On a routine flight with Yuna and Paine, the engine of their ship was on the fritz. Rikku went down to the engine room to investigate, only to find a red eyed being who promised not only to hurt her, but her dear cousin as well. Rikku, being the impulsive girl she was, challenged him. She was only to find herself falling through a dimensional gap, and into the lap of the Dimensional Warriors. It is debatable still if this was a good thing for them.
Rikku had little reason to join with the Warriors, outside of her ever present desire to relocate Yuna and make things explode. She decided to join, for now, until she could find her. She participated in many missions, stole many pants from those trying to kill her friends. She did enjoy the missions, but something was missing for her.
She found this in another warrior, named Riku. She couldn't help but wonder why he hid his eyes, why he was dressed in such funny clothes and why he fought with a giant key. She sought to learn what she could about him, until the day he dissappeared from her into darkness. Several months passed without a word.
She sat with Doctor Rodney Mckay many days, peering over his shoulder and asking him what did why and how this meant that for when in reguard to the stargate. She developed a fun and fond relationship with the Doc, and found that most of her fun resided in learning thing from him and doing what she can to distract him from his actual works.
Rikku became frustrated with the rest of the group, outside of those closest to her. Often ignored, and tired of the verbal bats and arguments over leadership, Rikku decides that she must do what she first set out to do: Find Yuna. She also wanted to find Riku, since not a word was spoken before his departure. She left, only telling the current leader Jameson and those who would help drop her off in her new search for her friend.
Rikku, now really alone for the first time, sought out to do just that. She combed over countries, chasing down trails and leads on where Yuna might be. She caught wind of the 'prisoners' of Hikaru City, and decided to investigate. She snuck on board the ship, and began her search. It is there that Rikku found a younger man strapped to a wall, beaten and frozen. She freed him, not being able to ignore his treatment by the StinkyPant government that sought to kill her and moved on to find Yuna next door, though she was unconcious. She assisted the young man, named Nowe, and raced to the deck as her presence was discovered. As the three were surrounded by soldiers, a puddle jumper appeared from the Dimensional Warriors, and of all people, the Doc peeked out and retrieved the three.
In this, Rikku learned she wasn't alone, and wasn't ever alone. She now had Yuna at her side. Sometime later, Riku also returned, though he seemed different, probably due to his extended vacation in darkness. She was very glad to have him back. During a defensive move on the Warriors to protect Eden, Rikku was struck by a heavy barrage of Plasma, and sent to the MedBay to recover. In that time Tidus, Yuna, Doc and Nowe never left her side.
Energetic and spontanious is Rikku's way of doing things. She's always eager to do something risky, even if to only prove she can. She loves the mechanical, and the creative. Her favorite things are stories of what once was and what could be, especially from her friends. She loves to learn and suprise those around her. She is a very loyal friend.
Rikku is a master thief and not too shabby engineer. She is a nimble fighter and is often seen doing what she can to embarrass the bad guy for challenging her.
Rikku is best known for her abilities to take her enemies by suprise, especially with her hiding talents. She can move slowly and work out traps to protect her friends. She can squeeze herself into tight places in order to make the way for the rest of the team. She prefers to fight with her daggers or explosives, but can also weild a gun.
Rikku has no talents whatsoever with magic. She is also weak to magical attacks. She has no interest in it, seeing technology and her own boastful belief in her abilities as more effective.
