For so long I hated being called a savior. Now it burns me to be called a regular human being. I wish I could be a savior... I want to save you. - Nowe, Drakengard 2
In a time where strength was determined by who you allied with, the world was in ruin. Very few remembered the weight of pacts between beasts and humans. Among those fighting on the side of the Union, was the royal family of the seal. The goddess Furiae, is the last of the protectors of the seal, meaning her life is absolutely crucial to keeping the world from falling into chaos.
Caim, Furiae’s sister and heir to the throne is mortally wounded during a siege on the castle and ends up nearly dead. In the courtyard of the castle his eyes fall upon a dragon that the empire has captured. He makes a pact with the creature, and pays the price of his voice. The pact cures him and the dragon of all their ailments, and in return Caim becomes one of the few to ever make a pact with a dragon, granting him strength above his wildest dreams. With this new strength, he takes Inuart (Furiae’s prior betrothed before becoming the goddess) and Furiae to the northern lands to escape the empire for now.
Inuart, who was always jealous of Caim for his strength, finds out about these pacts and what strength they hold. He along with Furiae are found and kidnapped by the empire, and the ‘watchers’ or evil guardians, see this as a prime opportunity. They corrupt Inuart, and recruit him to their side, where he makes a pact with a black dragon. In return he gives up his only talent, his musical ability.
The watchers aren’t done however, and now all the seals have been broken. All they need now is the goddess to give up her life. The high priestess Manah manipulates her, and the moment Caim finds her, intent on rescuing her, her deepest secret is revealed to him. Furiae truly hated the Union. Ashamed and feeling abandoned as Caim turned away, she grabbed a dagger from the table, and stabbed herself.
With the Goddess dead, chaos overtook the land. Unable to stay, Caim took to the skies with his dragon and made to leave the Empire’s fortress.
Inuart soon comes to visit Furiae, still deeply in love with her, she was after all the reason he gave up everything. He sees her corpse against a pillar with the dagger still embedded in her chest and returns to his former mind, no longer under the spell of the watchers. He takes her body as the seeds of resurrection begin to rain down upon the land and heads towards t he imperial capital with his dragon.
Caim and Inuart battle above the city, Inuart losing the battle and falling before the seeds of resurrection. Caim believes Inuart to be dead and leaves him, unknowing of what is really happening. With his last breath, Inuart enters the seed of resurrection with Furiae.
Due to the pact with the black dragon, Inuart himself is part dragon, and so is the child that emerges. The black dragon takes him far south, and keeps him from harm while Caim restores order to the world.
Nowe finds that he has a gift that no one else has. He has the ability to call forth Legna, summoning him anywhere he is. He knows the language of the Dragons from his home, and is given the benefits of a pact partner without the repercussions. As a child, General Oror of the knights found him with the dragon, and adopted him. His unnatural abilities earned him the name of ‘the demon child’ from other people, the ‘savior’ from the priests and Oror, and the ‘Dragon Child’ by his superiors.
Though he had a tough time fitting in, Nowe eventually made it into the knights of the seal to honor General Oror’s memory. Being a general asset to the team with his skills as a dragon rider, he became the favorite of all the higher ups fairly quickly.
During Nowe’s first mission, he finds out that the five districts that keep the world in order are powered by the lives of ‘martyrs’ or citizens and soldiers of the old empire. He disagrees with the ways of the knights and begins to contemplate if it is really all worth it. His doubts are only worsened as the new general, Gismor, introduces Nowe to the guardians of each district. Each of them are Pact partners and hold amazing power.
Finding out about Nowe’s doubts, Gismor finds this the perfect time to get rid of Nowe and poisons his drink, telling him that he did the same to General Oror a few years ago as well. Angry, Nowe finds a new power, his body glowing white as his pupils become that of a beast. His hair turns snow white and from his back erupts the seal of his father’s pact, showing his true form. With inhuman speed he rushes at Gismor and before he can draw his sword, Nowe severs his right arm before fleeing the castle.
On his journey, he crosses paths with one of the martyrs, Manah, and with her they plot to destroy all the districts to free the martyrs.
They visit the city of Rust where Nowe meets an old friend and ex-Knight of the seal. Urick agrees to help them and they set off once more. This time though before they leave the city, they are stopped by someone that troubles Manah, known as the ‘one eyed man.’ While distracted, Manah is kidnapped by the knights of the seal. Nowe and Urick are forced to infiltrate, and rescue her before she is executed.
They make their way to the District of Shining Life, where they again meet the one eyed man. By this time they learn that this man’s name is Caim, and he had been trying to destroy the districts for eighteen years. Nowe fights Caim, nearly defeating him before he’s caught off guard and nearly stabbed. Urick jumps in the way right on time and is thrown off his feet.
The rest of the group is unaware that Urick is actually the Guardian of the district, and his pact beast, a reaper, reawakens his body. Caim slashes at him until the reaper in his body eventually dies, and Urick pushes him from the platform before dying in Nowe’s arms.
They travel to the final district, an old friend from Nowe’s childhood trying to talk some sense into him before Gismor reveals his true self, a pact partner. Nowe moves in to attack Gismor, however he pulls Nowes friend into the blade, and disappears. Nowe peruses him and after a bloody battle, Gismor commits suicide.
The final district is destroyed and the ‘seal’ is released. Angelus rises from her prison, being driven insane from the tortures she went through, and seeks Caim. They find out that he’s still alive… and they find that the reason he had been destroying the districts was so that he could see her again. His last request for Legna and Caim was to kill Angelus. And so they did.
Being pact partners, Caim and Angelus both died together.
The world once again spirals into chaos at the loss of its goddess, and Legna takes Nowe to hear the prophecy of the dragons. He learns that they fight to regain rule over the humans, and the ‘new breed’ will be the one to lead them to that victory.
They travel to the holy grounds to seal a new goddess before everything is too far gone, the seeds of resurrection and destruction already raining down upon the land again. Legna tells Nowe that his true meaning is to lead the dragons to their victory, and when Nowe refuses to believe it, Legna challenges him.
Nowe loses the fight and Legna flies away. Manah comes to help Nowe, and he feels a deep surge of emotion. Once again he transforms, this time leaving the ground and perusing Legna. Finally, he Kills him after the truth is revealed that this was what he had been raising Nowe for the entire time.
He's a shy person in the regular world, having grown up under the stress of being hated by an entire army, and being used as a weapon for most of his life. However, as soon as he's caught in the heat of battle he is more than willing to find an end to all the fighting, even going as far as to present a challenge when it's needed. He doesn't like death, but when he sees that the opponent is the enemy and there is no other way he will take them down without question.
He is not scared of trying new things, in fact he welcomes them. Things such as relationships and dating though, he is blind. Love is something he doesn't know well.
Things that he feels strongly to are things that he will not resist trying to change. It's in his character. Though he may do it his own way.
Physically, Nowe is a skilled swordsman with both a longsword and a shortsword. He's been trained from a young age to use the weapons that he was given as a knight, and surpassed them all. With a longsword he usues a two handed style, and a wide attack range to take down his enemies. With a short sword, he uses one hand for balance while the other hand is used to hold the sword at around a 45 degree angle, providing excellent support. Both styles from him have their perks and disadvantages.
For the longsword, the less dexterious movement and wider attack range gives an advantage with special attacks.
Cyclone dance is a regular set of five slashes that at the end creates a spinning movement. (Unavailable at the moment)
After a series of four slashes the sword is slammed down for a blast of energy. (Unavailable at the moment)
After three slashes, nowe will spin around and bring the sword crashing down on an enemy ruthlessly. (Unavailable at the moment)
For the shortsword however, the more dexterious movement allows for a greater range of attack and most of his attacks require more movement and spinning.
