History

Childhood

You never change. - Sephiroth (Crisis Core)

At the beginning of his life, Genesis Rhapsodos was known as the first of three specimen called Project Jenova. In his case, he was catagorized as Project G. Seeing as there was a second project in the same field, it could be assumed that Genesis was a failed project because of certain behavioral and physical imperfections.

Genesis knew from a young age that his foster father was not his bioligical one, if nothing else because of the lack of attention he paid to his son. As the lanlord of the entire town of Banora, of course his father was busy, however he tended to avoid Genesis even if he begged for attention, his mother did the same. It was around the age of six or seven Genesis started keeping a journal, writing down everything and even reading through the extensive library of books his father had come to own over the years, which is where he got his first look at LOVELESS.

Inspired by the tale of the traveler, the prisioner, and the hero, Genesis began picking out parts of his life that matched the story, even going as far as to immagine himself as a hero. It became his goal, and started to consume him completley.

As dramatic as Genesis tried to make his life seem, he wasn't always alone. He had a friend named Angeal Hewley who was the son of Gillian Hewley and a farmer. Even with the political clash of the families the two boys became best friends, and in time inseperable.

It was the respect for Sephiroth and the desire to be the hero that he was that drove Genesis to SOLDIER. Genesis had a dream, he had written about it many times in his journal and he wanted to complete it. With Angeal by his side, Genesis joined SOLDIER.

Moving Up and Crashing Down

My soul, corrupted by vengance. Would I be the one to play the hero? Or would you? -Genesis (Crisis Core)

It didn't take long at all for Genesis or Angeal to move up through the ranks of SOLDIER, unknown to them the true reason why. While Angeal was excellent with tactics and field-work, Genesis was a more skilled magician and quicker on his feet. They were said to be the perfect pair.

Sephiroth began joining them on missions soon after their promotion into First class, making them a fearsome trio. For a while everything was allright, everyone was happy and Genesis was content with what he had. Two best friends, and people that understood him. However, it wasn't enough and soon his dream began to get in the way.

Things began to always be a challenge between Sephiroth and Genesis, and each time he would lose, the more agrivated he would become. Even on days that he would be perfectly fine, things would never be perfectly fine. On quiet days, Genesis, Angeal and Sephiroth would sneak up to the 49th floor Training Room and play around. However, the last time they attempted this, Genesis took things too far and demanded to be fought one-on-one. During the battle Angeal intervenes before damage is caused, Genesis retaliating and smashing a blade, causing it to come back and slash his shoulder.

Though he proclaims it's only a scratch, it's only the beginning of a world of problems.

Instead of the wound healing, it steadily began to worsen. It came to the point of Genesis needing regular blood transfusions in order to keep himself healthy. Dr. Hollander, who was seeing after him at the time believed that Sephiroths cells were incompatable with Genesis's, which is when Genesis learned the truth, that he wasn't what he thought he was, and that his entire life was a lie. Sephiroth was sent away and Angeal was used for the transfusion.

Hollander explained to Genesis that they were both part of an experiment called Project G, or project Gillian. It is also revealed that there were two attempts made, because Genesis was thought to be a failed experiment, and the accident that occured in the Training Room that day prooved the suspicions correct. At the time, it was only Genesis who was givien the full story, which compells him into a state of maddness. Monsters can't be Heroes

Not long after the incident, Genesis is deployed with a platoon of twelve second class SOLDIERS, none of them returning from the mission and all assumed dead in combat. Angeal knows differentley though and has a friend to at least give someone else a chance if he cannot return his friend to his former self. Not even a few days later, the executive director of SOLDIER deploys Angeal, and his recomended first class recruit, second class Zack fair, to Wutai.
